What is Falun Dafa?
Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a spiritual practice that millions around the world have made a part of their lives. Rooted in Buddhist tradition, it consists of two main components: self-improvement through the study of teachings, and gentle exercises and meditation.
Falun Gong was first introduced to the public in China in 1992 by the founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi. By 1999, Falun Gong attracted about 100 million people to practice in seven years by word of mouth due to its amazing benefit. Today Falun Gong is practiced in more than 70 countries around the world.
The belief system of Falun Gong offers the possibility of spiritual growth through disciplined practice. Its teachings encourage learners to let go of unhealthy attachments as they strive to attune their lives to the underlying qualities of the universe: Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance.

The persecution in China
The core principles of Falun Gong, truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, are rooted in traditional Chinese culture and resonated deeply with Chinese people across the country.
So why, on July 20, 1999, did the Chinese regime begin to violently target Falun Gong?
There are three main reasons: The size of its following made communist leaders fearful of losing control of the people’s hearts and minds. Its guiding principles appeared incompatible with communist, atheist ideology, which the Party had forcibly imposed on the Chinese people during the Cultural Revolution. In addition, certain communist officials saw Falun Gong as an easy target and used its vilification as a tool for their own political advancement.
Forced organ harvesting
It’s being called “abhorrent” and a “crime against humanity.” Allegations of forced organ harvesting in China started to surface in 2006. Since then, mounting evidence suggests these allegations are true—and even worse than originally suspected.
Prisoners of conscience—especially Falun Gong—are being killed for their organs.
Starting in 1999, the number of transplant centers in China increased by 300% in just 8 years, even though China has no effective national organ donation system. 1999 was the year the Chinese regime began persecuting adherents of the Falun Gong spiritual practice, sending hundreds of thousands to labor camps. Many of them were never seen again.
How you can help
Contact your representatives
Call, write and visit to let them know you support Falun Gong. Many levels of government have issued proclamations of recognizing the positive impact Falun Gong has had on society as well as resolutions decrying the persecution. Let them know that you appreciate their support, and ask them to continue.
Tell others what’s happening
Many people, both inside and outside China, are still unaware of Falun Gong and the severity of the persecution and torture in China. The Chinese Communist regime spreads propaganda demonizing Falun Gong and disguising its own brutal campaign of repression. Get the facts straight and tell more people about the human rights atrocity in China.
